The fund will provide financial aid to Native American law students who intend to work as legal advocates for Native American communities.

University of Arizona Regents Professor of Linguistics Ofelia Zepeda was awarded $50,000 for her poetry, written in O'odham and English, and called "one of the most compelling artists" in the nation

The Pilot Project Program is organized to accomplish the following aims:

Provide initial funding to early-career investigators to establish EHS-related research.
Support projects that address environmental justice issues in our desert Southwest region.
Encourage established investigators from other areas to develop EHS research themes.
Enable the pursuit of innovative new EHS research directions

A collaboration with the University of Arizona's Undergraduate Biology Research Program (UBRP). The summer research opportunity is offered to University of Arizona Native American undergraduates. 

Miss Native UArizona student Nadira Mitchell is using her Diné culture to shift the framework in conservation and tribal rights.

Please consider endorsing this letter of concern in relation to the impacts of protected areas and fortress conservation on indigenous peoples' rights. The letter was prepared by Project Expedite Justice in anticipation of a target to be adopted at the Convention on Biodiversity COP15 to protect 30 percent of the world's lands and oceans by the year 2030. It makes specific calls to action to respect indigenous peoples' rights in the creation or expansion of protected areas.

Since it was established last year, the University of Arizona's Indigenous Resilience Center has added to its roster experts who have long worked with and for Native American communities. Now, the center's leaders hope tribes can guide their next moves.

The degree program, housed in the Department of Linguistics in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, trains students in linguistics, language documentation, and language revitalization. It also aims to broaden the participation of Native American students in language sciences and graduate school.

The second annual Tribal Leaders Summit was held Thursday and Friday at the Phoenix Bioscience Core, which houses the UArizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. With a theme of "Advancing Tribal Health," the event focused on UArizona Health Sciences programs that support the public health of tribal communities. The summit showcased research for and in partnership with Native American communities, as well as programs that provide tribal students with financial support to pursue medical school or study other health care disciplines.

The university is honoring the culture and contributions of the Indigenous community during Native American Heritage Month. While the celebration runs through November, the university works year round with Native American communities to provide new opportunities to Indigenous faculty, students, entrepreneurs and others.
