CAMPUS handshake INITIATIVES

Adopted in September 2023, this policy applies to the university community when engaging in research or activities that have a foreseeable impact on sovereign Native Nations and/or their members.

NAATE brings together tribal leaders and dignitaries to engage with university leadership and students, fostering opportunities for listening and learning. Furthermore, regular visits to Tribal land enhance and reinforce our commitment to productive tribal consultation.

A collaboration of the University’s Linguistics Department and the Office of NAATE, the initiative is part of our broader efforts to make the University a welcoming and inclusive place for Native American students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The Native Peoples Design Coalition, housed under the Drachman Institute in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture, forms a collective vision to plan and design the built environment in ways that support Native American and Indigenous sovereignty.

This page recognizes the Native American Women of Arizona whose names are etched on The Women's Plaza of Honor. The plaza celebrates women who have made significant contributions to Arizona’s history or enriched the lives of others. It allows University of Arizona alumni, employees, students, and the community to honor these outstanding women.

A collaboration with Arizona Athletics, this initiative utilizes the unique partnership with Tribal Nations and their celebration during the sports seasons.
