A 3-day synchronous online course that explores ways to assess and prioritize Indigenous community needs with respect to nation building and uses case studies to explore how tribal governments work within legal constraints to serve their communities and assert their rights.

There is a need for increased representation of Native Americans in the health workforce. This presentation will present the state of the Native American workforce in Arizona and describe ongoing efforts to bring together various constituents to "grow our own" . 

The first hour will be a quick review of the Tribal Consultation Process and the report, and an opportunity to get feedback from Native faculty at UA. The second hour will offer the opportunity to understand the consent process by walking through a mock participant enrollment.  The third hour will be open to any UA faculty working with Native communities, to learn about the Researcher Workbench and the registration process.  We will close with an opportunity to provide further feedback.

Open only to UA Native American Faculty, Staff and Students and Researchers with current NA projects.

Sarah EchoHawk has been Chief Executive Officer of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) since 2013. AISES is a national nonprofit organization focused on substantially increasing the representation of Indigenous peoples of North America and the Pacific Islands in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) studies and careers.

The current movement toward open science and open data does not fully  engage with Indigenous People's rights and interests. Over the past five y ears, Indigenous data sovereignty has become a movement to Increase both Indigenous access to Indigenous data and Indigenous leadership within data governance.
