In view of the preparation of the Report of the Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples to the Human Rights Council

The University of Arizona Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy Program and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights invite you to participate in a virtual consultation with the Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples, Francisco Calí Tzay, on Monday March 14, 2022, 8-9:30am MST.  The consultation will inform the Special Rapporteur’s annual report to the Human Rights Council on Indigenous Women and the Development, Application, Preservation and Transmission of Scientific Knowledge, to be presented at the 51st session in September 2022.  

Participants are invited to share information, updates, views and opinions on the issue in the form of a 3-minute intervention to the Special Rapporteur, preferably accompanied by a written submission. We will do our best to hear from all participants. In the event that some participants are unable to speak, we welcome written interventions.  

The discussion will be organized around the following themes: 1) indigenous women as scientific knowledge keepers; 2) current threats to indigenous women’s knowledge - barriers and challenges; and 3) best practices led by indigenous peoples, States and international organizations in supporting indigenous women’s knowledge.
